Hulbert Outdoor Center

The first week of May, a 15-year Bridge School tradition continued: Our 14 sixth-graders traveled to the Hulbert Outdoor Center in Fairlee for a three-day camp experience. The purpose of the trip is to provide team-building and leadership training in an atmosphere of fun and challenge. Led by an instructor from the Center, the sixth graders had to function as a team to solve physical problems, for example getting everyone from point A to point B with severe limitations on what methods could be used. Following the challenge was a period of reflection, when the kids looked back at how they functioned and how well they accomplished individual and group goals they had set for themselves on the first day. The combination of working through those challenges, playing together at free time, doing jobs as a team at the dining hall, and eating family-style meals resulted in a shared feeling of accomplishment and camaraderie.
