After School Programs

Bridge School

Bridge School offers two kinds of after-school programs:

  • regularly scheduled after-school child care with a professional educator for a fee
  • seasonal after-school sports and arts programs, led by volunteers, usually parents.

Regularly Scheduled After-School Program

In 2011-2012 Bridge School is piloting a new after school program called Bridge Buddies. The program will be organized into 2 or 3 sessions over the year with separate sign-up for each session. Session 1 runs from September 12th to December 15th, Monday-Friday from 2:45 pm to 5:00 pm. The cost is $11 per day per child.

Attendance is for 1-5 days per week. That is, sign up is available for the whole week (Monday through Friday), or for regularly selected days each week (e.g.: every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday). Participation committment is to the entire session.

During this pilot year, the program is limited to 7 students per day. Slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis with priority going to students who are signed up for the full week.

Seasonal Sports, Arts, and Enrichment Programs

From time to time during the year, volunteers, usually parents, organize after school sports, arts, or enrichment programs.

Past programs have included:

  • soccer, in the fall, on the regulation-sized soccer field in back of the school
  • basketball, in the winter, on the basketball court in the gym
  • drumming for fun and performance
  • reading children’s literature
  • ice-skating on the Bridge School rink
  • Saturday-morning family hikes

Sports activities are focused on fundamentals, sportsmanship, and fun. Older students sometimes play a few games against other elementary schools. Students are sometimes asked to pay a small fee to cover costs of uniforms and equipment.

So far, planned after-school activities for 2011-2012 include fall soccer (non-competitive), winter basketball, and after-school book clubs.

Information about upcoming after-school activities will be shared at school meetings, via handouts passed out in home centers, and on the Events Page [link to events page] of the web site. You can also check at the front desk of the school.
